In collaboration with Bedford Press, we established a residency at the ICA leading up to Cosey Complex – a daylong event on the work of the visual artist Cosey Fanni Tutti. For one fortnight we holed up in the ICA’s Reading Room to design and edit the Cosey Complex Reader, which was produced on-site and distributed at the exhibition opening. The resulting spiral-bound volume sheds light on Cosey and her sometimes controversial work, mixing her pornographic or ‘Page 3’ vernacular with invited conversations. We later designed an extension of the reader for Koenig Books, which further documents the exhibition’s events and visually links back to the original object produced. Our design for Cosey Complex continues to address the tension between high art, identity and popular culture.
