(IN)formal L.A.: The Space of Politics

(IN)formal L.A.: The Space of Politics revisits the popular depiction of Los Angeles as a confluence of cars and movies to instead focus on land and opportunity as a lens for critical examination of its urban landscape. We were commissioned by the University of South California School of Architecture to design the book, which takes as a single saddle-stitched signature bringing together essays, photographs and projects that argues space is a function of politics. The book’s design nods towards Los Angeles’s exuberant mixture of high and low culture by combining colourful vernacular elements with austere typography.
