We were commissioned by curator Anselm Franke to design and art direct the visual identity of the eighth Taipei Biennial, Modern Monsters / Death and Life of Fiction. Invoking the ancient Chinese shape-shifting monster Taowu (a creature that sees both future and past), we created an identity with a scope that includes the original typeface Taowu Sans, Chinese and English guidebooks, a website, signage, wayfinding material and a media campaign deployed across Taipei, which wove together the doubling and manipulative effects of translation.
