Artists In The Archive is a collection of essays and case studies unpacking how archives inform, influence and inflect new works in experimental theatre, visual and performance arts, dance and curating. Thinking of the archive as practice rather than a pile of ephemera, the diverse contributions highlight the active nature of archival material, its role in reactivating past discourse as well as reframing documented histories. Four clusters – REMAKE, RETURN, REVIEW and ARCHIVE – divide case studies according to the actions taken when performances are re-enacted, events reconstructed or debates revisited.
Our design for Artists in the Archive presents the extensive research outcomes with a clear visual structure. The overarching categories each have introductory pages that visually divide the artistic contributions.
